When discussing the current state of Rock N Roll, Ian criticizes the term that many use, "Classic Rock":
"Whoever coined the term 'Classic Rock' should be publicly humiliated. They destroyed Rock. Do you know who created it? MTV, VH1, those guys. They decided that all Rock should be in a single category, but there are so many types of Rock."
He also mentions that Hip-Hop is a major influence on the band, that everyone has a lot to learn from the genre, but he doesn't leave out Rock, especially names like Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, David Bowie and Iggy Pop, citing them as the main ingredients.
“I love R&B. In the UK, when we started, we were very close to the black community and we have so much in common. African-American music has always been a part of my life. The Cult has always been a band influenced by culture, by diverse cultures such as Tibet, Nepal, and India.”
Already getting into the Brazilian rhythm, Ian says that Brazilian culture serves as a great inspiration, as it has a strong personality.
"That's how it should be. You have a very particular lifestyle. Brazil is unique. I feel that going to Brazil is liberating, because I feel that people understand us, due to their diverse culture."
The musician comments on his desire to work again with producer Rick Rubin, who produced the band's 1987 Electric Hidden City , among other albums by the group.
“Bob is an incredible engineer! Everyone talks about Bob as a producer, but he's also a great engineer. He understands the band and questions what we want, how far we want to go, and takes us one step forward.”
